Making It Stop is not-for profit organisation working towards creating a legal and recovery resource for survivors of sexual violence in Australia and beyond. Co-authored by Kirsty Dale and Ellen Riley, the project brings together legal research, lived experience, and trauma-informed insights to help survivors navigate the justice system — and reclaim a sense of power in the process.
We know the legal system can be overwhelming, confusing, and at times retraumatising. This book is designed to cut through the noise. It explains how the law works in plain language, outlines your options, and shares reflections from people who’ve been there. It also includes guidance on emotional recovery, support services, and how to engage (or not engage) with the system in ways that centre your needs and safety.
This is not just a legal handbook — it’s a companion. Whether you’re thinking about reporting, already in the system, supporting someone who is, or simply want to understand more, Making It Stop is here to walk beside you.
The book is currently in development. If you'd like to stay in the loop, contribute your insights, or get in touch, please email: making.it.stop.au@gmail.com
